Types of Boiler

There are three types of boiler – Combination, Regular and System boilers. Different boiler types suit different houses, but all could help lower your energy bills.

Combination Boilers

A “combi” boiler acts as both a cost-effective central heating boiler and a high efficiency water heater, all in one compact package. Water comes straight from the mains delivering excellent pressure for showers and taps.

The combi boiler is one of the most popular types of boiler to be installed, accounting for 2 out of every 3 boilers installed annually.

Gas, oil and liquid petroleum gas (LPG) fired models are available.

Regular Boilers

A regular boiler, aka a traditional, conventional or heat-only boiler, requires a hot water cylinder, expansion cistern and cold water tank in the loft, making it better suited to homes with low water pressure and a traditional heating and hot water system already installed. If you have an older radiator system or your household requires a large volume of stored hot water (e.g. for multiple bathrooms), a regular boiler might be your best option.

Regular boilers are also compatible with solar water heating systems for lower energy costs and a smaller carbon footprint.

Gas, oil and liquid petroleum gas (LPG) fired models are available.

System Boilers

Similar to a regular boiler, a system boiler also requires a hot water cylinder; however, a system boiler has the major components needed to run a heating and hot water system built in, removing the need for an expansion tank in the loft, and generally making for a quicker, easier installation. System boilers are also compatible with solar hot water systems for lower bills and environmental benefits.

Gas, oil and liquid petroleum gas (LPG) fired models are available.
