Air Source Heat Pump: East Farndon

“Lewington’s are very professional, and Darren is very knowledgeable on everything to do with renewables.”

Project Brief

Mr & Mrs Smith decided to consider alternate energy supplies for their renovation project, as knew energy was moving away from fossil fuels.

The oil boiler was in disrepair when they purchased their 3-bedroom semi-detached 1950s property to let. They originally intended to install a new oil boiler as there is no mains gas supply in the village. But when they saw Air Source Heat Pumps being promoted, they felt it was worthwhile considering this as a possibility.

Project details

Air Source Heat Pump Installation

From living and working locally, they were already familiar with Lewington’s. On Darren’s recommendation after providing a quotation, Lewington’s installed the following in January 2022:

  • Grant Aerona3 10kW Air Source Heat Pump
  • Grant 150ltr indirect un-vented pressurised Hot Water Cylinder

They also decided to apply for the Government’s ‘Renewable Heat Incentive’, which was available at the time.

The Result

  • The Air Source Heat Pump was installed neatly in the front garden. This freed up space in the back garden as the oil tank was no longer required, and there was no need for a boiler in the outhouse.
  • The Hot Water Cylinder was moved from the lounge which made more space, and the new one installed in the downstairs cloakroom as part of the extension works to the property.

Air Source Heat Pump Considerations

  • The temperature from an Air Source Heat Pump is different to a gas or oil central heating system.
  • You do have to plan the temperature in advance, as you can’t just come in and turn the heating up and expect it to be hot in 30mins. However, there is an app for the Hive so you can do this remotely.

“Lewington’s are very professional, and Darren is very knowledgeable on everything to do with renewables.

We did compare the quote for the Air Source Heat Pump to the price of having a new oil boiler instead, but we decided not to have any quotes from anyone other than Lewington’s.

There are so many companies advertising for Air Source Heat Pumps, but we specifically wanted someone local and that we could trust”.
